The University Library provides literature and information materials for the purposes of research, teaching, study and further education at the University of Mannheim. In addition, its facilities may be used by students of other colleges, private citizens, public authorities and companies in the surrounding region and the whole of Baden-Württemberg. The Central Library's materials are available to borrow by registered users. The University Library holds literature, media and databases on all subject areas (total stock approx. 2.2 million items). More than 300 databases as well as 4,500 electronic and approx. 5,200 conventional subscriptions to journals and periodicals are available to users. The Library's materials can be searched for and reserved via the World Wide Web, using the OPAC online catalogue. An inter-library loan service and a fast electronic reservation system are also available. The University Library provides 1,500 study desks for its users, of which 180 are equipped with personal computers. In addition to the above services, the University Library offers a comprehensive range of training courses on literature and information search methods.

Media Resource Centre
Online research

The Media Resource Centre offers a wide range of opportunities to access language learning software, international television channels, multilingual movies, documentations, film adaptions of literature etc.

You can search for DVDs, CD-ROMs, videos and books on a database or via OPAC (Online-Access-Catalogue). There you find approx. 25,000 items from 100 countries in over 80 languages.

In additon, we store daily news from different international broadcasters, which remain available in the Media Resource Centre for a period of three weeks.

Multimedia seminar rooms and language laboratories
 

Lecturers can use a multimedia language laboratory where teachers and learners are connected via a didactic web. This guarantees an ideal integration of multimedia learning material into university language teaching.
