The Multimedia Resource Centre comprises a media resource collection of some 55,000 sound-carriers and a number of video cassettes (as of June 2001). The extensive collection of sound-carriers (records, CDs, cassettes), primarily consisting of pop and classical music sound-carriers, is continuously enlarged, pursuant to the Hamburg Legal Deposit Law of 1988, by new acquisitions received from Hamburg producers. The audiovisual media can be used in five cubicles.
The Multimedia Resource Centre also files radio and television programmes using the resources of the library (e.g. estates, autographs/holographs, valuable prints) or reporting on the library and its resources. Exhibition premieres, lectures and congresses held in the library are also recorded and archived.

The library offers a comprehensive range of digital media and services, such as electronic databases, electronic documents (periodicals, dissertations, CD-ROMs), Internet research, www information systems available at about 70 user workstations. The library's electronic information services are available round the clock via the www information server (www.sub.uni-hamburg.de).
