The Parliamentary Archives of the German Bundestag hold the records of the Bundestag, its immediate predecessors, its organs, committees and other bodies, and the Bundestag Administration; they establish intellectual control over the records and make them available for access. Audiovisual recordings of all plenary debates, public meetings of committees and other bodies, public hearings and other special events in the German Bundestag constitute an important part of the archives.

The Parliamentary Archives hold audiovisual recordings of all the German Bundestag’s plenary debates. Only audio recordings are available for the years until 1987, when the Bundestag began to make video recordings on VHS / S-VHS cassettes in parallel. In 1995 the transition was made to the professional medium Betacam SP, and since 2000 all recordings have been made using Digital Betacam.
In addition, the Archives retain recordings of public committee meetings and public hearings, as well as special events such as the Federal Convention, ceremonies of remembrance and other ceremonies.

The primary finding aids are the Stenographische Berichte über die Verhandlungen des Deutschen Bundestages (Stenographic Records of the Proceedings of the German Bundestag) and the minutes of committee meetings and public hearings. Most of these can now be accessed (in German) on the German Bundestag's website. The video-on-demand service also enables viewers to watch videos of past plenary sittings and broadcasts by Parliamentary Television. Unfortunately, it is not possible to view audiovisual recordings at the Archives. Copies can be made upon request; please contact us for information about the current processing fees.
