"jaf - Junger Arbeitskreis Film und Video e.V." is one of the major institutions carrying out media educational work in Hamburg. Media education embraces working with audiovisual media as well as utilizing the diverse opportunities offered by computers. "Jaf" is involved in realizing and carrying out a number of youth film festivals throughout Germany and supports the young German film-making scene at events and festivals. In addition, "jaf" members constantly try to initiate media educational work at schools by carrying out projects and offering teachers training. The jaf society is run by volunteer members and is financed by individual project funding only.

Since October 2006, the jaf has been presenting the youth film database talent-film.net

talent-film.net is an online film database with films and videos produced by children and young adults up to the age of 27 within recent years. At the moment, the films are selected and recommended by 10 German youth film festivals. The films are categorized by content and style. The platform offers different approaches: Film research, genres and topics as well as searching for educational categories if you come from educational professions. Persons and institutions that have produced films are introduced in detail. This way, partners for new film projects can be found or film careers be traced.

Young film-makers often search for like-minded people and start new film projects together. At this portal film producers catch up on Germany's young film-makers and strive for partnerships and collaborations. The portal stimulates educators, schools or independent youth institutions to try something new. Teachers and research institutions profit from the access to topics and opinions of young people handled in their films and use these films in their lessons. In media educational fields the films serve as examples to motivate for further exciting film projects.

Films from upcoming young producers are screened in regular programs in German cinemas. Special talents are showcased this way and the German film upcoming gains more popularity.

Last but not least, "talent-film.net" allows the film industry to gather information on talented upcoming film-makers and to possibly strive for partnerships and collaborations. Thus, producers could watch out for directors, directors for actors or scriptwriters for interesting subject matter.

History
Display of a camera

"Junger Arbeitskreis Film und Video e.V.", founded in 1952, is Hamburg's oldest youth film club. In the beginning, the main focus of the club was on receptive filmwork. Films were viewed and analysed, guests were invited to hold film nights. Soon after, in the early Sixties, the members of the club started producing their own films. In 1988, the club was revitalised by the organisational staff of the film and video festival "abgezoomt" in Hamburg. Young people began to meet again and to share their common interest in film. Today, jaf is supported by experts from the fields of film, journalism, media education, arts, etc.

„Jaf“ has many years of experience in cultural education. Today, as in the recent decades, the main focus of work still lies in the arrangement of video productions, media educational work with children and young adults, support of young and upcoming film-makers and the realisation of film festivals. Most recently, „jaf“ has started a number of internet projects, for example „klickerkids“, an internet newspaper by and for children. Here, since 2001, children have the chance to publish their own stories and reports (www.klickerkids.de). At the video workshop "FLM DIR EINEN", which regularly takes place, children and young adults can learn the basics of film composition and produce their own film.
